Awaken the Dawn EP (2011)

Synopsis

“Awaken the Dawn” and “Rice, Kimchee and Eggs (RKE)” are two songs we play at nearly every gig, but we haven’t properly released either of the songs.

Awaken the Dawn was originally found on Mike’s collaborative effort with Jaeson Ma (Namesake) that was released back in 2007. We tried to release an Awaken the Dawn 2.0 on Break of Dawn, but after we started recording…we didn’t like what we created. Thus, scrapped it and told ourselves we’d re-record it someday.

RKE on the other hand, could be found on the Break of Dawn album if you popped in the CD and searched for it on your computer; however, we feel that this new version is finally in-line with how we want the song to sound. Descry thinks it’s because he actually cooked an egg before the song started, but Kevin thinks it’s because of his enhanced opera man section. You be the judge.

Both versions were recorded/mastered by Feats in Inches drummer (and Descry’s younger brother), Steve Lee.

Break of Dawn LP (2009)

Synopsis

Although often portrayed as joyful and painless, the Christian Walk (at least in America) may be better described as one filled with poor leadership, sorrows, mistakes, jadedness, and weariness. The scriptures are full of stories in which the patriarchs of our faith had emotional breakdowns (Elijah running from Jezebel, Joseph weeping over the betrayal of his brothers, David’s mourning over the loss of an illegitimate child, the prodigal’s reflection). “Break of Dawn” identifies with these sentiments in the Christian life. The record presents topics such as being hurt by spiritual leaders, growing jaded to what was once youthful zeal, the aftermath of an emotionally promiscuous past, and gossip within the church.

However, the songs do more than just identify with these sorrows!

In the biblical stories mentioned in parenthesis above, there are always follow up moments of restoration, like the breaking of a dawn. (Elijah’s mountaintop encounter, Joseph’s forgiveness and reconciliation, David’s heartfelt psalms, the father’s unconditional love).

Likewise, through this album, The Nehemiah Band presents hope and remedy to the anxieties and hardships of the Christian life. Employing the power of lyric and song, the band makes efforts to rebuild the church and end the “silent exodus.”
