The Nehemiah Band

Songs for the next record

Here is a list of songs we have been working on for the next record and a brief synopsis of their lyrical content. I can not wait to put out this record!

Hey
This song attempts to capture two things:
1) God’s invitation towards freedom
2) The ineffable joy of redemption

Shine
Jesus, Light of the World, shines, exposing our depth of sin, revealing his depth of glory.

Morning
He sings over us a new song of unconditional undeserved mercy with the rising of the sun. What joy for this song to be heard/felt at first stream of consciousness in the morning!

Yours
Relationship with God is paradox of radical devotion, radical satisfaction, radical hunger, radical heartache.

Where are You
It is foolishness to seek an infinite mystery, an invisible God, yet He calls us by name to do so. Intimacy, mystery, and dogged persistence collide in response.

Thought of You
Prayer is the practice of continually loving the Lord with all our mind all throughout the day.

Champion
A daughter’s healing is found in the affirmation of Father God.

New Mexico
Here I have tried to lyrically/melodically capture the drama of humanity joining creation as it groans for the revealing of the sons and daughters of God.

We caught Edwin Cho with a DOPE drum cover of Words. Check it out!

Summer’s here!

And good times are coming. We’ve had a lot of opportunities the past several months to expose our music to new friends and fans.  We’re extremely humbled and also grateful for all the compliments and support we’ve been getting.  So, thank you for those that came out to our shows, bought CDs and shirts, and/or said “Hi” to us.

We have another show with our old buddies of Feats in Inches.  The event is held by Lifestream ministry (aka VKUMC EM), and it’s a benefit concert for Express: Eden. More info here: http://tinyurl.com/4yub7fa

Please spread the word that the Awaken the Dawn Digital EP can be found on our Bandcamp site. Bandcamp>iTunes, but if you insist on getting the EP via iTunes, the singles will be available here (Awaken) and here (RKE). We do not plan on releasing a CD version, but if you want the true, high quality, lossless version of the songs, Bandcamp is the place for you.

We’re diligently working on our next album!

Thanks!

Live vs. Recordings

I love recording music. I love playing live even more.

When I record drums, it’s never with a full live band. It’s either done instrument by instrument and layered on top of eachother, or with a core set of instruments tracked live. Never the FULL group and sound. But when I play live, everything is there. Out in the open. All at once.

There’s a certain energy that musicians on stage feel when they are on the same page. We feed off of eachother. We become dependant on each other’s parts to make a whole. Different animal.

My drum parts even differ between live and recorded. When I record, I try to focus on being more simple to allow for more space for everyone else to take up. When I play live, I let loose. All the songs TNB plays live is real different than how it was recorded. I love that. I love how fans get a different experience at shows. Unexpected.

Mike has more energy in his vocals, and you can also hear more flaws, which add to the realness of live.

Kevin dances so hard that his guitar strap falls off.

Descry adds new scratch parts and synths.

Gilbert adds more fills and grooves harder.

And I get sloppy.

Tomorrow we’re playing at Young Nak Church along with AMP movement. Listen to our Break of Dawn CD before coming to the show and compare how we play different. A great example is 1thru7.

So come on by, we go on up early, so try to get there by 7 and relax. Experience live music. We definitely need more of it.
